Dear Patty Hall,
The internet is a magic thing, indeed, indeed, indeed.
One day in late 1974 or early 1975 I sat down beside you in a lecture hall at UCLA. (I think the course we were taking was Children’s Literature; when I’ll find the time I can actually check my transcripts to see in exactly which academic quarter I took that course.)
As we waited for the professor to arrive, we said hello, exchanged some chit chat including the fact that while I was an English major you were studying F...

Patty, I see you have a book out called At the Mill. I would like to have a copy but will check into that later. Just wanted to tell you a bit about my friendship with Sam Chatmon back in the early 70's. I can't recall the exact year, 72'73. Sam stayed with a family here near my home in San Diego. Met him when he played locally at the Pal Joeys cocktail lounge. He would invite us to bring our guitars over and we could sit in with him. Great fun and a great experience. He asked me if I could take...

Hey Patty! I have been searching the web for you. I wanted to thank you for your wonderful short story "All That We Love" with Raggedy Ann and Andy. My 2 year old, Braylee, and I read it every night before bed, and it makes her a happy girl! Believe it or not, she has the whole thing memorized! She can recite it on a dime. It's very impressive!
Thanks again!

Dear Patty, I received your ANNIVERSARY RETROSPECTIVE book a few days ago and am thrilled with it. My five-year-old daughter absolutely loves RAGGEDY ANN IN COOKIE LAND and RAGGEDY ANN AND BETSY BONNET STRING. I've read them to her again and again. She and my husband pretend to be Hookie the Goblin who steals her Raggedys and tries to make them into noodle soup. We've been borrowing other Raggedy books from libraries. Thanks for writing your book that will help answer my questions about Johnny G...

"It's organic organic organic you see,

I recorded you singing that song in 1974, remember the park festivals? My name is Don Jennings, I played back then in a band called Southwind, Sylvia Herold, Judie, Richard Adrianowitz, remember all that crew from the park festivals? I loved that time, I had just come back from working in Thailand and was leaning the folk com...

Patty,
You haven't changed a bit since you spent Christmas with us back in the early 70s.
Mike showed me your website so I thought I would touch base with you to see if you remember us. Sounds like you are a very busy lady. It was fun reading your website. We still live in the same house and both Gerry and I are doing really good for our age. I hope you will write us sometime.

I worked with you in 1989 or '90 when you came to Miami for the Raggedy Ann and Andy programs for the Miami-Dade-Publlc Library System's Coral Gabeles Branch Library where the Gruelle dolls are in residence . I am going to be driving to Jackson Ms from Roanoke Va and was hoping to stop and say "hello." But it looks like you are now an west coast girl. And it looks as if you are having a great-time.

Congratulations on your award for "Raggedy Candy Heart." It is one of my favorites also. I play my "Just Be Glad!" CD all the time as it stays in my CD player in my pickup. Love those banjo licks on "Coo-Coo Bird" and all the folk tunes I loved in the 60s. Sorry I missed you at the Raggedy festival this year-family matters got in the way. Got to go throw out my Ding dongs and get some granola. Your Raggedy Friend, Ron Grewell

Patty,
What I really want to hear is "Seven Beers With the Wrong Woman." Yes, it's been a long time since the Winescellar West. Last time I saw you I came to Nashville to product a radio spot with Jerry Reed. Do you still have that excellent D28 that I sold you?

Went to the Borders the other night to get a gift card for someone and stayed a little bit to hear you play. I liked the song about coming out west. It reminded me a lot of myself, since the military brought me here from Chicago and when I got out I decided to stay. Thought I`d write and say thanks for the muse! Nate

Hi Patty! Erin & I really enjoyed your big San Diego Folk Heritage concert in Poway...You made your show so educational...and we were impressed with how well you kept the show moving. No dead air time tuning the banjo for example. :-) We've been singing along with your CD on "just Be Glad" and "Organic." Darrell and Erin

Hi Patty -- Thank you for Gladness. I love your CD! Thank you for making it so well. Listening to it, I was transported back to the time we shared, all the times I sang “Organic” with various groups of nursery school and special ed kids--a whirlwind of my life and an imagining of yours. Much love to you. Blessings, Judith
