Drawing on her university training as a folklorist and versatility as a musician, PATTY introduces early elementary students to a variety of musical styles, traditions, and instruments--some well-known ones like guitar and banjo and some unusual ones, like resonator guitar and jaw harp. Students get a chance to participate by singing along on familiar songs, learning some new ones, and playing along on rhythm and percussive instruments from different ethnic traditions.

12:25 - 1:25 PM | RAGGEDYS HURRAH!
BURBANK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
2146 Julian Ave
San Diego, CA 92113Who are RAGGEDY ANN AND ANDY? How old are they and where did they come from? Although most grownups remember their childhood Raggedys, today's kids may not have heard about these American icons or know that Ann and Andy were created nearly 100 years ago by a cartoonist named Johnny Gruelle.
RAGGEDYS HURRAH! acquaints early elementary students with the history, legends, and stories about America's favorite ragdoll characters, and stresses their appeal to both girls and boys. Activities include a read-along from one of Patty's RAGGEDY "READY-TO-READS", an interactive felt-board activity concentrating on shapes and design concepts, and students trying their hand at making some Raggedy art of their own to take home.
